I’m a historian and author with over eighteen years of experience teaching, mentoring, and publishing scholarly and trade nonfiction. I’ve worked with Ph.D. students and undergraduates to develop strong arguments, clarify complex ideas, and bring long-form writing projects to completion.
I received my B.A. in History from Stanford University (Highest Honors) and my Ph.D. in U.S. History from UCLA, where I was a Carey McWilliams Fellow. My work has been supported by fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Council of Learned Societies, and the Mellon Foundation, as well as research fellowships from Harvard, Yale, Duke, Texas, and Wisconsin.
I am the author of three books—Chosen People (Oxford University Press, 2013), The Princess and the Prophet (Beacon Press, 2020), and a commissioned family history—and numerous articles and chapters. I have taught at UCLA, Wesleyan, the University of Kansas, and the University of Nevada, Reno.
